Page 10 The Return Home |

We packed our gear, ate our last breakfast and started back to East London for our return home on May 10. We visited a gift shop and got a few souvenirs, then parked next to the Indian Ocean where Steve and I took time for a photo op.
When we got to the airport, we noticed that all the morning flights had been delayed because of the fog. Our flight was scheduled for take-off at 10:30 AM, but was on indefinite delay. We had a little angst wondering if we would miss our flight out of Jo'burg because of the delay. But at about 10:15 the fog lifted enough that flights began to depart. We finally got away only about 25 minutes behind schedule, so we would have no problem making the flight from Johannesburg. <Cheer> Everything went smoothly getting off to Washington. We stopped again at Dakar, Senegal, for refueling and then got to DC without incident. I will have to say that the meals, and the legroom on the South African Airways legs of our trip were much better than on American Airlines. We did have a little more angst when we were going through customs at DC. The inspectors were checking everyone's baggage and took some items - ostrich feathers - from some ladies that were just ahead of us. We remembered that Steve had the tusks from his smaller warthog in his luggage. Sure enough, the inspectors went all through our baggage as well, and Steve was glancing nervously back and forth from me to the inspectors. But fortunately, they did not find the tusks. <more cheers> We arrived at DFW around 11 AM and I caught my shuttle home. Steve was able to get an earlier flight than originally scheduled, so he got back to Tulsa ahead of schedule. This was the trip of a lifetime for both of us and will provide many memories and lots of reminiscing when we get together. I just want to conclude by saying that if you are ever looking for a hunting trip to South Africa, you will be hard pressed to find a better, or more reasonably priced trip than this company (Kubusi Safaris) provided. We arranged our trip through the website http://eaioutdoors.com/outdoors/. I recommend that you ask specifically for Hennie as your PH. You will not be disappointed. |
