We were met at East London by our Professional Hunter (PH) Xolile, who we called X, and his tracker Ozzie. X drove us to our first camp, Glen Boyd.
We were assigned to our cabin, Duiker, and then X showed us around the camp.
After a lunch of scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage, we went to the range to zero the 270 which was not a company rifle, but belonged to the owner of the hunting enterprise. The rifle shot consistently to the right by about 6 inches and since it belonged to the owner, X did not want us to zero the scope. This was a BIG negative and showed the inexperience of X. We made the adjustment on where we were aiming at 100 yards, then returned to the camp. We had some juice and snacks until supper was ready, and during and after dinner we visited with the other PH's and their clients. Then back to our cabin for sleeping and pondering what would be our 1st day of hunting. |
