We flew into Anchorage at the end of May 2006 and saw
some of the sights there, including the Native Heritage Center,
the Anchorage Museum, and drove around just looking at some
of the gorgeous scenery. One day I drove to Homer for a half-day
halibut fishing trip. Everyone on the boat caught their limit -
two
halibut. They ranged in size from just under three feet to about
four
feet in length. One of mine was just under and the second was
just
over three and a half feet. Halibut are bottom feeders and we
were
fishing at about 125-150 feet deep. After the second fish, my
arms
were burning and seemed like they weighed about two hundred
pounds each! It was fun, but two fish were definitely enough for
me.
Shown below are the place we stayed, Hawthorn Suites, some shots
taken of huts, dancers, totem poles, etc at the Native Heritage Center
and some paintings that Sonya really liked by an artist named Sydney
Lawrence. Then there are photos I took on the Homer fishing
trip.
By the way, the deck hand on the boat was a young lady about 23,
and she had all 24 halibut cleaned and bagged for the group by the
time we got back to the docks, about 30 minutes. She was very
attractive and set a great example for wives everywhere <grin>.
